About the author


Dr. Neumann is a planetary scientist. He was born in 1947 in Washington, D.C. and graduated from Baltimore Friends School and Reed College. He received a doctorate in marine geophysics from Brown University in 1993, after working in forestry, manufacturing, hospital labs, nuclear power, and geothermal exploration. As a post-doc he worked at Johns Hopkins and MIT. As a staff scientist at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, he analyzed laser altimeter and gravity data, participating in missions to the Earth, Moon, Mars, Mercury, 1 Ceres, 4 Vesta, 433 Eros, and 101955 Bennu. A small main-belt asteroid discovered by D. R. Skillman at Front Royal, VA, 2007 TV69 was named 341359 Gregneumann.
